Oil

Statement: Billie Faye Brannon was born in Gary, Indiana.  She graduated in 1959 from Lewis Wallace High School.  She worked in the Traffic & Transportation Industry for 41 years in various management positions.  After retiring in June 2001, Billie Faye and her husband George moved from Lowell, IN, to settle in the Lake Tansi area of Cumberland County.

Biography: Billie Faye did a little drawing in grade school; however, her primary activities and interests were creative writing and singing.  With no previous training, she took up graphite pencil drawing and oil painting in January of 2007.  Billie was blessed to have some excellent instruction in oil and other media from Grace Fuller.  She has also learned other art media like watercolor, acrylic, and colored pencil.  Photography has also become one of her favorites.  Billie truly enjoys her adventure into all phases of art, and she loves experimenting with different media.

One of Billie’s favorite oil paints is “Meadowlark,” which was chosen for display at the Judged & Juried Show in April 2010.  This encouraged her decision to become a member of the Art Center.  John Simms Jr., who taught art classes at Fair Park Senior Center continues to be a positive influence on Billie’s artistic endeavors.

Billie Faye currently services as the coordinator for the “Art in the Park” Event held annually by the Plateau Creative Art Center.  This event was created as part of the Art Center’s community outreach activities in order to enrich artistic awareness on the Cumberland Plateau and beyond.  Billie actively promotes the Art Center’s goals of “Teach, Learn, and Inspire.”  She believes that art education for both youth and adults helps encourage.  Billie knows that art enriches her life every moment of every day.

In addition to art, Billie’s other interesting include gardening, dancing, and donating her time at other organizations like the Cumberland County Playhouse.
