Farber, Linda

Jewelry

Statement: Linda Farber, a long time resident of the garden part of NJ, moved to the beautiful state of TN in 2008.  After considering and rejecting many other locations for retirement, the Farbers settled in Fairfield Glade, drawn by the altitude, weather, short seasons, the abundance of greenery, and of course the FFG art center.

Linda spent her life raising 5 children, renovating an old Victorian house, teaching several hundred children while designing, planting, and maintaining fabulous gardens.  In her spare time she played with all types of art materials.  In her sophomore year of high school, she accepted a job as pianist for a newly formed Lutheran church.  This was the beginning of her organist/pianist/handbell and choir directorship positions which spanned over a 62 year period including 12 years here in FFG at Christ Lutheran Church.

Biography: Linda studied music at Ithaca College and finished up her education at Ryder College with a BA in Elementary Education. Although Linda had little formal art training, her creative side has always dominated her life.  Her dad, a man of many interests and talents himself shared his own interest in the arts, a great source of fun and relaxation for both.

Linda used her art interests when teaching her 2nd through 6th grade students.  She taught beading classes in NJ and here in TN through the FFG Art Center and the Life Long Learning program while also sharing her mixed media knowledge with church and senior groups.  Linda was the creator of the art guild’s Smorgasbord classes and ran the program for its first six years.  Some of her jewelry designs were published in “Bead and Button” magazine, one actually making the cover of B&B.  Linda has won awards for beaded and polymer clay jewelry, as well as wall art in pencil, watercolor, and pen and ink.  She finds it hard to stick to one medium.

Outside of the art world, Linda spends her time reading, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.  She’s a movie watcher, a card and mahjongg player, a gardener, a pianist, and spends most of her spare time looking for new art ideas.
