Statement: Charlene Lehto grew up in a small town near the New England coast. She attended the University of South Florida, Massasoit Community College. In addition, she took work-related courses and painting workshops. Charlene worked as a bank officer in MA., AT., and NH, doing title abstracting. She briefly managed League of NH. Crafts shop.

Biography: Charlene painted from Cape Cod to northern Maine and Nova Scotia. She attended the University of South Florida. After working in MA, CT, and NH, in 2018, Charlene Lehto and her husband, Seppo, moved here following the recommendation of friends stating Crossville was “a good place to retire.” Charlene painted for two galleries; The Art Place in Wolfeboro, NH, and Crossroads Gallery in Richmond, VA. She recognizes Zoltan Szabo, Tony Van Hasselt, Marshall Woodside Joyce, and Priscilla Patrone as amazing and generous teachers.

Charlene works in her own private “Lehto Studio,” where she enjoys watercolor, oils, acrylics, and pen and ink. Her heart is at the seaside, but being a country girl at heart, she also enjoys painting landscapes and woodland scenes. Charlene has taught watercolor and hopes to soon return to teaching. When taking classes herself, she mostly enjoys one- or two-day workshops.

After moving to Crossville, Charlene researched and found the Art Center. She appreciates the variety of classes the Art Center offers. While being content to enjoy her home, husband, kitties, and her own studio, she also spends time quilting, knitting, crocheting, cooking, and reading.
