Statement: Rene Oberer grew up in Vandalia, Ohio. She received a BA in Commercial Art from Sinclair Community College. For 20 years, she worked at Oberer’s Flowers as a floral designer in Dayton, Ohio. She also owned and operated a dance studio, teaching dance in Vandalia for over 35 years. In 2013, she moved to South Cumberland County, where she and her husband reside.

Biography:  In 2004 Rene and her husband, John, began visiting Fairfield Glade, Tn. They realized it as a wonderful community nestled in a beautiful area of Tennessee. Once retired, in 2013, they decided to move south to the Big Lick area of Cumberland County. A big draw was the moderate climate, and living in Tennessee was still close enough for them to return to Ohio for family visits.

Rene attended a Friday “Wine and Fun” event. Seeing all the artwork inspired her to start painting again. While feeling most comfortable working with acrylics, she is reacquainting herself with watercolors. She also is experienced working with textiles and art glass.

Versatile skills and passions enable Rene to garden, grow and preserve her food, including medicinal herbs. She makes natural soaps and balms. She and her son have combined their skills and have been creating resin and wood slab tables.

While art and nature inspire Rene, music moves her. She would like to teach a creative movement class. The benefits from such a course include but aren’t limited to; improving core strength, increasing mobility, and enjoying the movement of music.

To add to the fulfillment of her life, she also has two children and three grandchildren.
