Reeser, Sheryl

Watercolor

Statement: In 1961, Sheryl Reeser graduated with honors from what is now called Illinois State University with a teaching degree. She majored in Special Education. Sheryl went on to earn certifications in physically and mentally handicapped and learning disabilities and elementary education. She later earned a master’s degree as a reading specialist. She used her degrees and certifications while teaching for nineteen years, only leaving her career to have her five children.

Biography: After college, Sheryl met Don Reeser, and in 1962, the two were married. They lived in Perkin and Kewanee, Illinois. The Reesers visited Fairfield Glade several times before moving here in 1995 to retire. They were impressed with the variety of amenities offered in Fairfield Glade, golf being an important asset. It was while visiting Sheryl found out about the Art Center and was excited at the prospect of learning to paint in watercolor. She became a member soon after moving to the Glade and took advantage of the classes offered at the Art Center. She attributes her ability to paint in watercolor to these classes and from gleaning information from the books found at the Art Center.

In 2000, Sheryl, encouraged by a guild member, began teaching watercolor classes to beginners and later taught advanced students. While she loves art, teaching is her favorite and most rewarding artistic activity.

After fifty years of playing golf, Sheryl has retired from the sport. She has now taken up card games, Bridge and Hand and Foot, to name a couple. Sheryl also enjoys her time painting and teaching art classes.
