Biography: When the time came for David White to retire in 2019, he felt Crossville offered a nice balance between rural and suburban living. So, it was here David made his home. David began teaching himself to draw by tracing. Observing amateur cartoonists draw freehand gave him the courage to put away the tracing paper and draw freehand as well. He starts by sketching a figure and scanning the sketch onto his computer. He fine-tunes it, adding coloring and shading, using 3D modeling programs to render backgrounds for the finished product. David enjoys the human figure, mostly, and the challenges of drawing something we’re so used to seeing.

Someone suggested he use Photoshop’s layer capability for his drawings. David found “layers” a good fit for his work style. He would be willing to teach a digital art class with an emphasis on using layers. Due to the expense of Photoshop, he would use a free equivalent program for teaching if one is available. He found the Art Center on the internet after moving to Crossville.

When not working on 3D drawings, David displays his musical talents. He plays the French Horn in Crossville’s band and is learning to play the hammer dulcimer. He also belongs to a Knoxville coed league where he plays beach volleyball. He also makes time for cinematography and making video recordings for renaissance fair, musicians, and dancers.
